TN Couple Arrested For Hijacking Truck Carrying 2.5 Tonnes Of Tomato

A couple from the the neighbouring state of Tamil Nadu had been arrested after they claimed to be in an accident in order to rob a truck carrying 2.5 tonnes of tomatoes.

According to police, the Vellore pair was a member of a group of highway robbers who stopped Mallesh, a farmer from Hiriyur in the Chitradurga district, on July 8 and demanded compensation, alleging that his truck was in collision with their vehicle.

On July 8, the gang beat the farmer and forced him out of the truck after he refused to pay them. They then drove off with the truck, which was carrying 2.5 tonnes of tomatoes valued over 2.5 lakhs.

The RMC Yard police followed the movement of the car and identified the gang as a result of the farmer’s allegation.

According to them, Bhaskar (28), his wife Sindhuja (26), and three other people were all still on the run on Saturday. Mallesh was being held up by the gang in Bengaluru while delivering tomatoes to Kolar.
