1. Wrestlers remain steadfast, despite an inconclusive meeting with Union Sports Minister
Top Indian wrestlers met with Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur late on January 19 and refused to back down from their demand that the government dissolve the Wrestling Federation of India immediately. The marathon meeting began around 10 p.m. on Thursday, the second day of the wrestlers’ protest against World Wrestling Federation president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
2. Army will receive its first Apache attack helicopter in February 2024
The first fuselage for the Indian Army’s contract for six AH-64E Apache attack helicopters has rolled out of the Hyderabad facility of Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited (TBAL), a joint venture between Tata Advanced Systems Limited and aircraft manufacturer Boeing. According to a defence official, the first Apache is scheduled to be delivered to the Army in February 2024, and training for Army Aviation pilots and technicians began in the United States last December. According to one official, the first fuselage was formally handed over to the Director General of Army Aviation Lt. Gen. A.K. Suri before being dispatched by TBAL to Arizona in the United States for final assembly.

The United States has announced another $2.5 billion military assistance package for Ukraine to combat Russian aggression, bringing total US military assistance to $27.5 billion. “This assistance package will provide Ukraine with hundreds of additional armoured vehicles, such as Stryker armoured personnel carriers, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles, and High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled vehicles,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Thursday.

On Thursday, the Kremlin warned of escalation in Ukraine if the West provides the pro-Western country with more weapons capable of striking Russia. “This has the potential to be extremely dangerous; it will mean taking the conflict to a whole new level, which, of course, will not bode well for global and pan-European security,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
