Top US Officials in Delhi! Will Take Up Alleged Plot to Target Terrorist Pannun With India

India Canada Relations: According to the White House, US President Joe Biden‘s top national security advisor is in India for discussions on a range of bilateral matters, including claims concerning the attempted assassination of Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu on US soil.

Delegation’s Mission to New Delhi

“Principal Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer led a delegation to New Delhi on December 4 to review the progress made in the ambitious US-India Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) with India’s Deputy National Security Advisor Vikram Misri,” the White House said in a statement on Monday. “Finer acknowledged India’s establishment of a Committee of Enquiry to investigate lethal plotting in the United States and the importance of holding accountable anyone found responsible,” it read.

Charges Against Nikhil Gupta

Nikhil Gupta, an Indian national, 52, was charged by the US Justice Department last week with participating in a purported murderous scheme against Pannun. A press release by the US Justice Department, Said, “an Indian government employee, working together with others, including Gupta, in India and elsewhere, directed a plot to assassinate on US soil an attorney and political activist who is a US citizen of Indian-origin residing in New York City”.

India’s Response to Allegations

India replied that it was against government policy and was concerned that one of its officials was associated with the plot, from which it distanced itself. India declared last week that it would formally look into the US’s concerns and take “necessary follow-up action” based on the panel’s findings, which were established on November 18. The White House announced on Monday that Finer met with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to discuss plans for a post-war Gaza, the Israel-Hamas conflict, and recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea.
