PM Modi: Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the scene of the train tragedy in Balasore, Odisha, and promised those involved “serious punishment.” According to him, the government is supporting people who lost family members in the disaster. The country’s deadliest rail catastrophe in more than 20 years resulted in at least 288 deaths and 800 injuries.
Prime Minister Modi Assures Support and Investigation Following Tragic Incident

About 170 kilometres north of Bhubaneswar, at Bahanaga Bazar Station in the Balasore district, Prime Minister Modi made an airborne landing close to the scene of the event. He met the survivors of the disaster while visiting the injured at the Balasore District Hospital. Along with fellow cabinet members Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the PM was spotted visiting the location.

Prime Minister Modi Urges Swift Assistance for Injured and Bereaved Families
From the location, the Prime Minister spoke with the Cabinet Secretary and the Minister of Health. According to officials, he asked them to make sure the injured and their families receive all the assistance they require. Additionally, PM Modi stated that extra measures must be taken to guarantee that the grieving families experience no hardships and that those affected continue to receive the aid they require. PM Modi called a meeting earlier today to assess the situation related to the accident. At 7 o’clock on Friday night in Balasore, one of the train’s coaches derailed, causing three trains to collide.
Investigation Launched as Compensation Announced
Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, is also in the region to assess the situation and visit the injured patients in hospitals. Her counterpart from Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, visited Balasore this morning and spoke with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw about the situation. A high-level investigation into the accident’s causes has been ordered by the Railways Ministry. The ministry has announced compensation amounts of Rs. 10 lakh for the surviving families and Rs. 2 lakh for the critically hurt. From the PM’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF), PM Modi has also announced a compensation of 2 lakh for the relatives of the deceased and 50,000 for the injured.
