Tripura polls: Voters turned out in large numbers in Tripura where election for the 60-member Assembly took place on Thursday. The final figure will be counted on March 2. A turnout of 81.10 per cent was recorded as voting draws to a close in Tripura amid incidents of violence, the Election Commission said.
PM Modi urges voters turn up in ‘record numbers’
Ahead of the polling, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had urged voters to turn up in ‘record numbers’. Calling on the youth of the northeastern state to exercise their franchise in the Assembly elections, PM Modi asked for strengthening of the festival of democracy.
CM Manik Saha, turned up early for voting and after casting his vote, he said, “It feels good. I urge all voters to cast their vote.”
“I have cast my vote at Tulsibati School under 8-Town Bordowali constituency. My appeal to all voters of Tripura is to participate in the festival of democracy & exercise their democratic rights to build “Unnat Tripura, Shrestha Tripura”,” Tripura CM Manik Saha said.
‘High Voter Enthusiasm’
“High Voter enthusiasm #TripuraElections2023 indicates peaceful atmosphere prevailing in the State for conduct of polls under the aegis of Election Commission of India. Adequate security forces made available to instil a sense of confidence among voters,” Election Commission of India, spokesperson said.
