Two Air Force personnel have suffered minor injuries due to the explosion near the technical area of Jammu Air Force Station. There were two blasts at an interval of 5 minutes. The first blast took place on the roof of the campus building and the second below. Two drones were used to detonate. The attackers have not been located, but it is suspected that they were targeted by aircraft parked in the blast area.
Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbag Singh termed the incident as a terrorist attack. He said that along with the police and the IAF, other agencies are also probing the matter. This is the first time a drone has been used in a terrorist attack.
Dilbagh Singh told ANI that in both the blasts at Jammu airfield, the use of drones with payloads is suspected to have dropped explosive material. Jammu Police has also recovered 5-6 kg IED. This IED was obtained by Lashkar-e-Taiba operative and it was to be planted in a crowded place.
He said that with this recovery a big terrorist attack has been averted. One suspect has been taken into custody during interrogation. More suspects are likely to be caught in the case of this failed IED blast. The police along with other agencies are investigating the matter.
