UK PM Boris Johnson expresses solidarity with India following Uttarakhand glacial burst

British PM Boris Johnson has expressed solidarity with India following the glacial burst in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district that has left 15 people dead, while nearly 175 missing.

Taking to Twitter, Johnson said that the UK is ready to offer whatever assistance the country needs as it continues with its mission to rescue the survivors.

“My thoughts are with the people of India and rescue workers in Uttarakhand as they respond to devastating flooding from the glacier collapse. The UK stands in solidarity with India is ready to offer any support needed,” he said in a tweet. 

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron, UN Secretary General and Japanese Ambassador to India Satoshi Suzuki had also offered their condolences to the victims of Uttarakhand glacial burst. 

“France expresses its full solidarity with India, after a glacier burst in the Uttarakhand province, leading to the disappearance of over 100 people. Our thoughts are with them and their families,” said Macron in a tweet.

“My heart bleeds for tragic loss and missing of many innocent lives by the massive #glacier burst in #Uttarakhand today. I’d like to extend my heartfelt condolences, and pray for those missing to be rescued as soon as possible. Our sympathy is with the people of #Uttarakhand,” he added. 

“The United Nations stands ready to contribute to ongoing rescue and assistance efforts if necessary,” said Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General following the flash flood.

“Secretary-General is deeply saddened by reported loss of life & dozens missing following the glacier burst & subsequent flooding in Uttarakhand. He expresses his deep condolences to families of victims and to people and Government of India,” he added.

A glacier burst in the Tapovan-Reni area of Chamoli District of Uttarakhand on Sunday(February 7) which led to massive flooding in Dhauliganga and Alaknanda rivers and damaged houses and the nearby Rishiganga power project.
