Manipur Violence: The bungalow of Union Minister of State for External Affairs RK Ranjan Singh in Kongba in Imphal was set on fire by a crowd on Thursday late at night amid ongoing turmoil in the northeastern state of Manipur, according to ANI, citing the Manipur government. The minister responded to the situation by telling the news organisation that he was in Kerala on official business. He continued by saying that both the first floor and the ground level of his property had been damaged by the miscreants’ use of petrol bombs.
No Casualties as Mob Targets Imphal Home
‘Thank goodness, no one was hurt last night at my Imphal home. Seeing what is occurring in my own state makes me very sad. I’ll keep making the same plea for peace.’ The minister said, ‘Those who engage in this kind of violence are utterly inhuman.’
This is not the first time that a mob has attacked the minister’s home. On May 26, a mob surged at his home and claimed that the administration was not doing enough to protect the local population from extremists from another town. “The Manipur violence was unpredicted…it was a bit difficult to find out and secure the vulnerable area,” Singh said in an interview with the news agency ANI. “Now that we have identified the vulnerable areas, CM has deployed central paramilitary forces, rapid action forces, state commandos, and state civil forces.” At around 8 p.m. on Thursday, security personnel used tear gas shells to disperse a mob that was attempting to surround Singh’s home in the Kongba neighbourhood of the district.

Tear Gas Used to Disperse Mob Surrounding Minister’s Residence
At around 8 p.m. on Thursday, security personnel used tear gas shells to disperse a mob that was attempting to surround Singh’s home in the Kongba neighbourhood of the district. Singh holds a top position in the Bharatiya Janata Party and is a respected member who represents the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha constituency. He is the second minister whose home has been attacked by a mob that is outraged because they feel that not enough is being done to protect the residents. A group of people attacked the Bishnupur district home of Manipur PWD Minister Konthoujam Govindas on Wednesday because they believed the government was not protecting local residents from terrorists from another group.
