UP: Al Qaida terrorist were planning blast before independence day says UP ADG

UP ADG Prashant Kumar said that both the terrorists arrested from Lucknow were associated with the Al Qaeda-backed Ansar Gajwatul Hind organization. These people were planning to do something in the cities before August 15. The ATS has recovered explosives from them.

“ATS UP has uncovered a big terror module. The team has arrested two terrorists linked with al-Qaeda’s Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. A cache of arms, explosive materials recovered: Prashant Kumar, ADG Law and Order, UP, on Lucknow ATS’ operation in Kakori today,” he added.

“Al Qaeda is a Sunni Islamic terrorist organisation founded in 1980. The UP Module is handled by Umar Halmindi, who is active near the Pak-Afghan border in areas like Quetta and Peshawar. Halmandi recruited few people in Lucknow, radicalised them and raised the module which comes under Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind,” the UP ADG said.

Prashant Kumar said they had human bomb training.

Two pressure-cooker bombs, a detonator, and 6 to 7 kilograms of explosives were recovered from their hideout.

Both the terrorists arrested in the ATS action in Lucknow were associated with the Al Qaeda-backed Gajwatul Hind organization. This organization was being run by a man named Umar.

According to the ADG of UP, the Al Qaeda-backed terrorist organization was being operated from Peshawar and Quetta.

He said that Umar was preparing people of jihadi tendency in Lucknow. He told that Minhaj Ahmed and Mashiruddin alias Musheer are members of this organization. These people were planning to blast at different places in the cities before August 15.

The ADG said that on the basis of the input, a huge quantity of explosives was recovered from Minhaj’s house.

The ADG said that on receiving the information, a team raided Minhaj Ahmed’s house in Lucknow and he was found at home. A huge quantity of explosives was recovered from his house. ATS recovered a pistol and an IED from his house. At the same time, the received IEDs are being deactivated with the help of BDDS.

The second team raided the house of accused Mashiruddin in Lucknow. A huge quantity of explosives was also recovered from his house. According to the ADG, the ATS is interrogating both the accused.

He said that raids are being conducted by other teams at different places to search for the associates of these terrorists. During interrogation, the arrested accused are said to have run away from the house of their associates. Based on which the ATS team is running an intensive checking campaign in these areas.
