Police said on Sunday that three people, including a woman, had been arrested for making an offensive and indecent Facebook post on Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust general secretary Champat Rai.
Sanjay Bansal, a Bijnor resident who claims to be Champat Rai’s brother, has filed a FIR against the trio, according to Krishna Murari, the in-charge of the Nagina police station.
Bansal said in his complaint that in a Facebook post, a man named Vineet made various unpleasant and insulting remarks about the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust’s general secretary.
All three are accused of conspiring to make false allegations against the VHP leader and in the process, “hurting the sentiments of crores of Hindus across the country”.
In a Facebook post three days ago, Vineet Narain had accused Mr Rai of facilitating land grab by his brothers in their hometown in Bijnor.
The police have booked Narain, Lahoti and Rajneesh under 15 sections of the Indian Penal Code and three of the Information Technology Act.
These include Section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings), 293 (circulating obscene objects), 448 (punishment for house-trespass), The Times of India reported.
