US Embassy Denies Reports of Envoy’s Warning on Potential Deterioration in India Ties
According to a Politico report from earlier, Eric Garcetti warned his team in India that US-Indian relations “could get worse for a time” as a result of India’s diplomatic spat with Canada. The United States embassy denied these reports in a formal statement. It said, “The US embassy dismisses these reports. Ambassador Garcetti is working hard every day to deepen the partnership between the people and governments of the United States and India. As his personal engagement and public schedule demonstrates, Ambassador Garcetti and the US Mission to India are working every day to advance the important, strategic, and consequential partnership we have with India.”

The story also cited an unnamed State Department employee who claimed that Garcetti informed his staff that “the US may need to reduce its contacts with Indian officials for an undefined period of time.” Relationships between India and Canada have been strained in recent months as a result of heightened activity and threats by pro-Khalistani forces in the North American nation, according to New Delhi. Following Trudeau’s accusations against India in the Canadian parliament, diplomatic relations suffered a severe knock.
India Counters ‘Absurd’ Claims Amid Diplomatic Tensions with Canada
The claims have been deemed “absurd” and “motivated” by India. In retaliation for Ottawa’s expulsion of an Indian official, it also expelled a senior Canadian ambassador. On September 21, India requested that Canada scale back its diplomatic representation there as ties between the two nations reached an all-time low as a result of Ottawa’s accusations against New Delhi.
