US mid-term elections: The youngest person to be elected to the Illinois General Assembly, Nabeela Syed has written history. The 23-year-old Indian-American won the recent US midterm elections over her Republican challenger Chris Bos. In the race for the 51st District seat in the Illinois State House of Representatives, she received 52.3% of the vote.
Mss. Syed wrote on Twitter about his excitement: “My name is Nabeela Syed. I am a 23-year-old Muslim, Indian-American woman. We just flipped a Republican-held suburban district.”

“And in January, I’ll be the youngest member of the Illinois General Assembly,” she continued.
“Thank you thread incoming tomorrow. We had an incredible team that made this possible,” in a follow-up tweet, Ms Syed added.
On Instagram, Nabeela Syed also posted a lengthy statement outlining her trip. She described her goal as follows: “When I announced for State Representative, I made it a mission to actually engage in conversation with people – to offer them a reason to get active in our democracy and aspire for better leadership that represents their values.”
Ms. Syed continued on why she won “because we engaged in that conversation,” she said.
Ms. Syed stated as she thanked everyone for their support, “I knocked every door in this district. Tomorrow, I start knocking them again to thank them for placing their trust in me. I’m ready to get to work.”
