US India Relations: India has been buying more and more cheap Russian Oil and refining it into fuel for Europe and the US. Fuel refined in India is not considered to be of Russian origin . Regarding Oil purchase from Russia, Karen Donfried, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs stated that US is not looking at sanctioning India over its purchase from Russia.

She continued by saying that while the US and India may have different approaches to policy, they both share a commitment to uphold the rule of law based on international law and respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty. As previously noted, the US’s relationship with India is crucial.
According to the US Secretary of State for Energy Resources, the majority of bilateral security agreements between the US and India include a provision for energy security. The US further claimed that it was “satisfied” with India’s strategy on the purchase of Russian oil, adding that “we value the dialogue that we continue to have on the matter.”

US diplomats defend price cap imposed on Russian Oil
Senior US diplomats the price cap on Russian Oil and stated that it was an opportunity for India, even though it was not participated in it.
Furthermore US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said the price cap “will lock the discount on Russian oil” and countries like China and India will be able to bargain for steep price reductions.
US diplomats also believe the sanctions imposed on Russian Oil is having their intended impact and the idea of price capping was to squeeze Russia and drasctically cut its souces of revenue which is fueling the war in Ukraine.
Data intelligence firm Kpler reported that India shipped about 89,000 barrels a day in gasoline to New York last month and Daily sulfur diesel flows to Europe were at 1,72,000 barrels in January, the most since October 2021.
