Uttarakhand: Cloudburst in Pithoragarh leaves 3 killed, 8 missing

Three people were killed and eight others have been missing after a cloud burst following heavy rains in two villages of Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand, news agency ANI reported on Monday.

On Monday morning, heavy rains caused havoc in Taga village of Munsyari and Gela Village of Bangapani in Pithoragarh, causing damage to many houses of the two villages of Pithoragth. Three people have died in Gela village while as many as 8 people of Taga village are missing.

The rescue teams reached the spot to carry out rescue operation. The search for the missing people has begun in the village and neighboring area.

“A rescue team is present at the spot,” VK Jogdande, Pithoragarh’s district magistrate was quoted as saying by ANI.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Trivendra Singh Rawat, has instructed District Magistrate, Pithoragrah to provide relief amount to the affected families.

Pithorgarh has been always a sensitive spot for heavy rainfalls. Every year the district faces major destruction followed in the monsoon season.

The heavy rains in the district began on Saturday night with many villages swamped by debris. Now, Monday cloud burst has caused panic among the villagers.
