Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will hold a virtual meeting with senior officials and District Magistrates to review the situation due to incessant rain and cloudburst incidents across the state amid the ongoing monsoon season.
According to a statement issued by the Chief Minister Office (CMO), the meeting will be held via video conferencing, at 12 noon today.
Taking to Twitter, the chief minister on Monday tweeted that he spoke to the guardians of deceased on phone and assured him all the possible help.
At least three members of a family were killed and four were reported missing after a cloudburst in Mando village in Uttarkashi district early on Monday. Many houses were submerged under water after cloud burst and heavy rains in the mountain state.
“Three people died and four people were reported as missing after a cloudburst in Mando village in Uttarkashi district,” said Inspector Jagdamba Prasad.
Amid heavy rainfall in many parts of the state, several houses were submerged by water in some areas of the Mando village after the cloudburst, said the SDRF. Prasad was initially informed by the District Disaster Management Officer (DDMO), Uttarkashi that some people were trapped in the village due to water coming from the drain in Mando village on Gangotri road, the SDRF added.
The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted widespread rainfall and isolated heavy to very heavy rains over the western Himalayan region and adjoining northwest India from July 18 to 21. Several parts of Delhi, adjoining NCR and Haryana received heavy rainfall on wee hours of Monday, Tuesday causing waterlogging and affecting movement of vehicles.
A red alert warning of heavy to very heavy rain has been issued for most of Uttarakhand’s 13 districts. As many as 28 teams have been kept on standby across the state on the orders of SDRF chief Navneet Singh Bhullar to deal with any eventualities.
IMD has made similar predictions for Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, western Uttar Pradesh and northwest Madhya Pradesh, northeast Rajasthan, north Konkan, Bihar and parts of West Bengal.
