Uttarakhand extends COVID curfew till July 13; allows some relaxations

The Uttarakhand government on Monday announced to extend COVID Curfew’ in state till July 13. However, the government has also allowed some relaxations. The government has allowed opening of shopping malls with 50 per cent capacity. In yet another relaxation, the government has allowed cities/town to observe one day shutdown on their traditional closure day. Earlier, shops in the hill state, except tourists’ destinations Nainital and Mussoorie, were ordered to remain close on Sunday.

“COVID-curfew extended till 6 am of July 13, 2021. Malls to reopen at 50% capacity and markets to remain closed on weekends,” said Uttarakhand Govt Spokesperson Subodh Uniyal, adding that the remaining provisions of COVID-19 lockdown have been kept the same, which are currently in force.

“Each place has its own traditional weekly closure day. For instance, shops in Dehradun are closed on Sunday, in Doiwala on Wednesday, in Rishikesh on Thursday, in Srinagar on Friday, and so on. The Weekly closure days were decided by trader. Therefore, this time, we have allowed them to keep markets shut on their traditional closure day,” Uniyal added.

 Uttarakhand on Sunday reported 78 fresh cases of Covid-19. With this, the cumulative tally of Covid-19 cases in the hill state surged to 3,40,724. There are 1,749 active cases in the state.
