All construction activity has been stayed by Uttarakhand Government

He also informed that after the incident of land subsidence, all construction activities have been stopped by Uttarakhand Government in entire Joshimath area, including Tapovan Vishnugad power project and Helong Marvari bypass road.

According to him, 3.50 crores in humanitarian help has been given to 235 impacted families as of January 30.

The Uttarakhand government, according to Mr. Singh, has ordered the payment of 1,00,000 as an advance for rehabilitation and 50,000 as a displacement allowance to each affected household. 45 crores have been given for this purpose.

According to the minister of earth sciences, the Mahesh Chandra Mishra Committee, which was established in 1976, recommended that major construction in Joshimath be permitted only after assessing the ground’s ability to support loads.

He claimed there was no outright ban on residential or commercial construction in hill stations, but the local government might decide to impose limits depending on the likelihood of hazards.

Ecological clearance mandatory

The minister said that environmental permission was necessary before starting any sizable development project in the Himalayan region. Joshimath, he claims, is built atop a substantial layer of very old landslide debris, with enormous gneiss boulders and basic schist rock fragments visible to be lodged in a grey-colored silty sandy matrix. Mr. Singh also claimed that the state government has provided the affected families with temporary lodging that costs 950 per room per day and 450 per person for meals.

He stated,

“Those not availing these temporary accommodation, an allowance of ₹ 5,000 per month is being provided to affected families for six months,”

According to Mr. Singh, the afflicted individuals in the relief camps also received free medical chekups and free medicines.
