Vande Bharat, the revolutionary initiative by Indian Railways, has redefined rail travel in just a few years. With several Vande Bharat trains already in operation, the network is set to expand further, bringing about substantial time savings for passengers. The latest development promises even more convenience, as 60 new Vande Bharat trains are slated to hit the tracks this year, showcasing the railway’s commitment to efficient and modern transportation.
60 New Vande Bharat Trains in 2024
According to the MoneyControl report, Indian Railways is in high gear as it aims to launch a total of 70 Vande Bharat trains in the coming year, with 60 scheduled for introduction before November 15. This ambitious expansion follows the successful launch of 34 Vande Bharat trains in 2023, indicating a significant stride in transforming the railway landscape.
Coordinated Selection of Routes
The selection of Vande Bharat routes involves meticulous discussions, case studies, and approvals. Collaborative efforts between state governments, Indian Railways, and independent consultants shape the decision-making process. Presently, 35 potential routes have been identified, and ongoing research aims to uncover more avenues for expanding the Vande Bharat network.
State Interest and Approaches
States like Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala have expressed interest in introducing Vande Bharat trains on new routes. These proposals are currently under consideration, reflecting the widespread appeal and demand for Vande Bharat services across the country. Requests have poured in from nearly all states and union territories, highlighting the national significance of this transformative rail initiative.
Future Plans
Looking ahead, Indian Railways envisions launching Vande Bharat trains on 18 new routes by June 2024. The subsequent plan involves introducing four new routes every fortnight from July onwards. This phased expansion strategy is geared towards optimizing rail connectivity and catering to the evolving travel needs of the Indian populace.
Northern and Southern States to Benefit
The report outlines the geographical spread of Vande Bharat trains, with 34 trains earmarked for northern states and an additional 25 for the southern region. Notable routes include Mumbai to Shegaon, Pune to Shegaon, Belagavi to Pune, Raipur to Varanasi, Kolkata to Rourkela, and the introduction of two Vande Bharat trains in Gujarat, connecting Vadodara to Pune.
