A few days back in Karnataka, the son of a BJP MLA was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 40 lakh. Since then MLA Madal Veerupakshappa was absconding. Now that he got bail before arrest from the High Court, the workers gave him a grand welcome like a hero. A video of this incident is also going viral on social media.
In the video, the MLA is sitting in his car and people are gathered around. People are walking with the car shouting slogans. The MLA is sitting in his car with a sunroof, smiling and waving hands to greet people. Firecrackers were also burst on this occasion. Madal Veerupakshappa’s son Prashant Madal was arrested by the Lokayukta officials while taking bribe and Veerupakshappa is the main accused in the case.
What is the matter?
According to news agency PTI, the MLA’s son Prashant Kumar was the Chief Accounts Officer of the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). Prashant was arrested by Lokayukta officials from the office of Karnataka Soap and Detergent Limited (KSDL). This company is famous for making Mysore Sandal Soap. At least 3 bags full of currency notes were recovered from the company’s office. Madal Virupakshappa was the chairman of Soaps and Detergents Limited of Karnataka.
After this, his house was also raided from where a mountain of notes was found. After the matter worsened, the MLA resigned from the post of chairman. Since then he was absconding. At the same time, the Youth Congress pasted posters of his disappearance across the state. Assembly elections are going to be held in Karnataka in the next few months. In such a situation, the Congress has accused the Bommai government of corruption.
