Vinesh Phogat is twenty-nine years old, and she has had no less magnificent a run in Indian wrestling, with a Commonwealth Games gold and an Asian Games bronze to her name. Her journey to the final in Women’s 50 Kg Freestyle wrestling at the Paris Olympics 2024 was nothing less than a fairytale. Her bid was brought to a sad end when, a day ahead of the gold medal bout, she had been ruled out of contention for being 100 grams overweight.
Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini Weighs in on Vinesh Phogat’s Possible Political Move
The speculation over Phogat’s political future evoked different reactions from political circles in Haryana. Chief Minister of Haryana, Nayab Singh Saini, reacted to the speculation of Phogat joining Congress. He said, “It is a personal decision of Vinesh Phogat. Whatever she decides and whatever she likes. I have nothing to say on this.”
Saini said confidently, “BJP will form the government in the state for the third time. The names of the candidates will be announced soon.” All eyes now will be on Vinesh Phogat, with the imminent Haryana Assembly Elections, to make a jump from the sports field into politics and add maybe a new chapter to her already glorious career.
