Viral video: Councillor threatens to commit suicide in protest against broken pipeline in PM Modi’s constituency Varanasi, WATCH

Viral video: A video of a former councillor in Varanasi has surfaced on the internet, which has people intrigued. In the video, he is seen holding a protest against the authorities in the most unique way. For the last few days, water is flowing on the new road of Varanasi due to leakage in the pipe. Due to the flow of water, potholes have been formed at many places on the road. In protest against this, former councilor Shahid Ali demonstrated a protest in the most unique way. He staged a sit-in by lying down in the water flowing in the pit. Check out the video below:

Shahid Ali said that even after complaining about the drinking water line leaking for several days, officials have failed to take cognisance into the matter. He said the overflow of water has caused the road to become slippery, posing as a threat to the daily commuters in the area.

The situation has angered the local people, too. On the other hand, due to leakage in the pipeline, hundreds of liters of drinking water is being wasted every day. Due to this, the apathy of the departmental officials regarding the water crisis is being exposed.

Meanwhile, the councillor went on to threaten authorities that he would commit suicide at the same spot if the grievance remains unaddressed.

Varanasi DM takes action

However, Varanasi DM reacted to the viral video and instructed the concerned department to fix the pipeline. “There is a leakage in the water supply line at Nayi sadak area and due to traffic repair work could not be done during daytime. Both the Jalkal and Jalnigam staff are on the job. By tomorrow morning this repair work will be completed” he wrote on Twitter.

Varanasi if PM Modi’s constituency

For the unversed, Varanasi is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency. During his first visit to Varnasi in 2022 post winning the assembly election in 2019, PM Modi has laid foundation for projects worth Rs 1,774 crore in the city.

“The development is progressive when the people of holy places connected with faith and spirituality are provided with modern facilities, when the poor get facilities like houses, electricity, water and toilets. From boatmen, weavers, handicraftsmen, street vendors to the homeless, everyone benefits, then development is sensitive,” he had said.
