A small helmet-mounted camera, which the teen intended to use to video his speeding ride, also captured his fatal accident. The video went viral on Thursday. The deceased Praveen (19) and Hari (17), residents of Taramani, went for a ride on the 100 feet road in the locality on Tuesday.

They had planned to drive on OMR and record it on camera. The 2:22-minute video shows Kishore getting into the fatal accident 20 seconds after his start. The rest of the video shows people gathering, calling for an ambulance and the police arriving.

Praveen was in his first year of college while Hari had completed 12th standard and was waiting for admission in college. Police said they were driving a sports motorcycle that could go up to 130 kmph.

The bike was bought by Praveen’s parents a few months ago. Police said that Praveen did not have a license to drive a two-wheeler. “While Praveen was driving the bike, Hari was riding the back. They recorded the video starting at 18 kmph. They had reached near the overhead railway track at Taramani when the bike hit it at 114 kmph,” said a senior police officer.

At that very moment, a minivan coming from the opposite direction made a U-turn in the middle of the road through the open lane. In an attempt to avoid hitting the vehicle, Praveen hit the middle at a high speed and both fell away from the vehicle in the collision.

He was taken to Royapettah Government Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The Guindy Traffic Investigation Police has registered a case. Quoting eyewitnesses, the police said that the helmet along with the camera got detached and fell on the impact.
