Weather Update

Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that temperatures in Delhi-NCR would drop starting from today due to chilly northeasterly winds that have already begun blowing into the plains from the snow-covered mountains.

Large areas of north and northwest India had been spared from a cold spell by the western disturbance, but it has already started to recede, it added. Before the western disturbance gave respite, several areas of north and northwest India saw below-average maximum and minimum temperatures on the majority of days this month, according to an IMD official.

Shelter homes created in Delhi owing to weather

Over the previous 10 to 11 days, a thick layer of fog has persisted over the Indo-Gangetic plains. Additionally, there was a significant space between two western disturbances, which enabled icy winds from snow-covered mountains to blow in for a longer-than-usual length of time.

On Sunday morning, temperatures at Delhi’s Safdarjung ranged from 4.7°C to 3.0°C, 3.0°C to Ridge, and 3.2°C to 3.8°C. All temperatures are nearly 3–4°C below average. As Delhi gets ready for another cold wave, authorities have created additional shelter houses. The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has equipped a night shelter near Dandi Park, Yamuna Bazaar, with amenities including TV, literature, restrooms, and mohalla clinics.

Fog has caused certain flights, including those between Delhi and Riyadh, Delhi and Shimla-Kullu, Delhi and Varanasi, Delhi and Dharamshala-Srinagar, and Delhi and Dehradun, to be delayed.
