The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts no relief from bone-chilling cold and dense fog until at least January 9, affecting various regions including north and central India.
Severe Cold Conditions in Haryana, Rajasthan, and Punjab
On Friday, severe cold day conditions were observed in many parts of Haryana, Rajasthan, and Punjab. Delhi also experienced cold day conditions in isolated pockets.
Extended Cold Spell: IMD Alerts for Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi
The IMD forecasts continued cold day to severe cold day conditions in some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi on January 6 and cold day conditions on January 7. Isolated pockets of Rajasthan are also expected to face similar conditions on January 6.
Persistent Fog Challenges Visibility
Moderate to very dense fog conditions prevail, affecting several regions including Punjab, Haryana, East Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. Shallow fog is reported in parts of Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and isolated pockets of East Rajasthan, Bihar, and Uttarakhand.
Delhi’s Weather: Temperature Fluctuations and Yellow Alert
Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 14.6 degrees Celsius, five degrees below normal, and a minimum temperature of 9.4 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal. A yellow alert has been issued for January 6 and 7 due to expected dense fog.
Transportation Disruptions: Traffic and Flight Delays, Trains Running Late
Extreme cold conditions and dense fog disrupt traffic movements and train schedules. Trains are running late, and the traffic department urges caution while driving, advising the use of fog lights. Flight operations, including some international departures, face delays at the Delhi airport due to low visibility caused by dense fog.
IMD Warnings and Forecast
The IMD predicts dense to very dense fog conditions in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and East Rajasthan until January 7. West Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, and East Uttar Pradesh are expected to experience dense fog in isolated pockets on January 6 and 7. Dense fog conditions are also forecasted for several other regions until January 9.
No Respite: Temperature and Fog Conditions
The IMD expects no significant change in minimum temperatures in North India over the next five days. Dense fog continues to affect various regions, impacting daily life, transportation, and outdoor activities.
