Weather Update: Over the next four to five days, the IMD predicts that there will likely be light to moderate rainfall in some areas of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Lakshadweep. Over Kerala on January 7, over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on January 7, and over coastal Tamil Nadu on January 10—all very likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning. On January 7, there was probably isolated, extremely heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu’s north coast. On January 7, there was light rain in certain areas of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Sikkim. Northwest India is expected to be impacted by a new Western Disturbance starting in January. under its influence and in combination with easterly winds at a lower altitude. On January 8 and 9, there is a chance of light, isolated rain in the following regions: Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Uttar Pradesh.

Dense to extremely dense fog is probably present in some areas of Punjab, in isolated areas of West Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, north Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Odisha, Assam, and Meghalaya, as well as in isolated areas of Uttar Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. There’s a good chance of extremely cold days in some areas of Punjab. There are isolated areas of West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi that experience cold days. There is a high probability of isolated thunderstorms with lightning and gusty wind (up to 50 kmph) over Kerala and Mahe. There are also isolated thunderstorms with lightning over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
