Weather Update: There is a good chance of isolated areas of heavy rainfall over Lakshadweep Island and south Tamil Nadu. Lightning and thunderstorms are probably present in isolated areas over Lakshadweep. Dense fog is probably present in sporadic areas over northwest Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana. Extremely likely isolated pockets of cold wave conditions over Punjab. Over the Gulf of Mannar and the Comorin area, squally weather with wind speeds between 40 and 45 kmph with gusts up to 55 kmph is very likely to prevail. It is advised that fishermen avoid these areas.

There is a high probability of light to moderate rainfall in many locations over south Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Mahe on December 20, and most of Lakshadweep on that day. After that, the amount of rainfall will likely decrease dramatically. Dense fog in isolated pockets is almost certainly predicted for the following five days over Punjab and Haryana, the following three days over northwest Uttar Pradesh, and the morning hours of December 20, 2023, over Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. In isolated areas over Punjab on December 20, 2023, cold wave conditions are very likely to occur. On December 20, 2023, there is a possibility of isolated, intense rainfall over southern Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep. Over the next five days, there is no chance of any significant weather over the remaining portions of the country.
