Weather Update: For the past two to three weeks, North India has been gripped by a brutal cold wave. Over the next four to five days, severe fog conditions are predicted to persist over the plains of northwest India, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Meanwhile, beginning on January 1, 2023, a new cold wave episode is predicted to start over northwest India.
Notably, numerous areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh experienced minimum temperatures yesterday in the seven to 10 degree Celsius range. In some remote areas of Punjab, dense fog was reportedly present. Most locations over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and many locations over Himachal Pradesh as well as a few locations over Uttarakhand had rain or snowfall.

Delhi
The national capital is predicted to be colder today in contrast to previous couple of days. Also, the fog is likely to impact the city severly in the day time as well. For today, the maximum temperature will be 21 degrees and minimum will be 7 degrees.
Mumbai
IMD predicts that city and its suburb will be sunny and bright. This will also mark its string of pleasant days. Also, the weather patterns are likely to be similar for upcoming days as well. The maximum temperature for today will be 32 degrees and minimum will be 21 degrees.
Chennai
Chennai will remain partly cloudy. However, the city is unlikely to be lashed by any rainfall. Skies will continue to be under some cloud cover. For today, the maximum temperature will be 29 degrees and minimum will be 23 degrees.

Kolkata
The minimum temperature will continue to be on the lower end while the sun will continue to shine bright on the city today. Also, there is no significant change predicted for the city. For today, the maximum temperature will be 27 degrees and minimum will be 17 degrees.

What is the weather update for upcoming days?
During the following two days, dense fog is also quite likely to form in a few isolated pockets across Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. In the meantime, isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi between January 1 and 3, as well as over Uttar Pradesh on January 2 and 3, are quite likely to see frigid daytime temperatures.
