Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a cold-wave warning, predicting that there will be no significant change over Northwest India in the next 24 hours, followed by a gradual rise of about 2 degrees Celsius over the next four days. The cold weather brought dense fog, disrupting air and rail traffic. Visibility at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport dropped to zero metres, causing numerous flights to be delayed or cancelled. Furthermore, many trains arriving in the capital city were reported to be running late.

IMD Predicts dense to very dense fog very likely in many parts over Punjab and Haryana- Chandigarh-Delhi, at a few places over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar; Dense fog in isolated pockets over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Jharkhand, Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura. Cold day to severe cold day conditions are very likely in a few locations across Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, and in isolated locations across Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are very likely in a few locations across Punjab and Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, as well as cold wave conditions in isolated pockets across West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar. Thunderstorms with lightning occurred in isolated locations across Assam and Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.
