Weather Update: According to IMD, there is a high probability of dense to very dense fog in certain areas over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and East Rajasthan; there may also be dense fog in isolated pockets of West Rajasthan; some areas of Uttarakhand may have dense fog, as may isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam, & Meghalaya, as well as Mizoram & Tripura. Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, and possibly isolated areas of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim may experience a hailstorm, thunderstorm, and lightning. It is likely to be a cold day to extremely cold day in many areas of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, and West Uttar Pradesh, as well as in some areas of East Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh. A chilly day in remote areas of East Rajasthan.

There has been isolated heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in parts of south Tamil Nadu, as well as isolated heavy rainfall in parts of south Kerala and Lakshadweep. There is a good chance of snowfall and light rain over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad on January 2, 2024. It is very likely that Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh will experience sporadic, light rains on January 02–04, 2024.
