Weather update: The residents of Delhi and its adjoining areas have breathed a sigh of relief from scorching heat after rain accompanied by hailstorms and gutsy winds hit the national capital region. The maximum temperature, on Friday, dropped to 36.9 degrees Celsius, after mounting above 45 degrees Celsius on Monday and Tuesday.
IMD predicts respite from the heatwave till May 30
The India Meteorological Department has said (IMD) has predicted respite from the heatwave until May 30 with similar conditions expected to prevail for the next few days.
Delhi rain update
Delhi is likely to witness a partly cloudy sky with very light rain and thunderstorms in isolated places. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be between 36 degrees Celsius and 21 Degrees Celsius, as per the Regional Meteorological Department.
Western disturbance over Northwest India
Due to a western disturbance active over the western Himalayan region, rain showers are expected to be over northwest India, as per the IMD. The respite comes after days of scorching heat across the northwest regions.
Rain in hilly areas
“Heatwave has ended in entire India today. For today temperature will decrease and it will be cloudy. We have issued an orange alert for hailstorms, storms and rain in Rajasthan, Punjab, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Chandigarh. There is a possible fo rain in the hilly areas for the next 2-23 days. There are chances of storms in East India as well,” IMD scientist RK Jenamani was quoted as saying by IMD.
