Weather Update: The Indian Metrological Department (IMD) predicts heavy rainfall/snowfall in isolated locations across Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh. It also forecasts heavy rainfall in isolated areas in Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, and Kerala and Mahe. Thunderstorms with lightning are quite possible in scattered locations across Kerala and Mahe, as well as Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
Rain and pollution at the same time in Delhi
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had previously predicted a small improvement in air quality before Diwali due to good weather conditions, including rain. The IMD authorities further stated that a change in wind direction from northwest to southeast caused by a new western disturbance affecting northwest India will lessen the influence of smoke from stubble burning in the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana. The study also suggests that travel is a significant contributor to Delhi’s bad air, accounting for 12 to 14% of the total. In response to worsening air pollution, the local government intends to use cloud seeding to create fake rain on November 20-21. On Friday, a proposal in this regard will be given to the Supreme Court, which is hearing a slew of petitions on the problem of air pollution.
