Weather Update: According to IMD, on January 4 and 5, dense to extremely dense fog conditions are expected to prevail for a few hours in some areas of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, and Bihar, followed by three days of dense fog in isolated pockets. Conditions of dense to extremely dense fog are expected to be present in isolated pockets over Rajasthan on January 4 and 5, for a few hours in the morning, and in isolated pockets for the next two days. On January 4–6, as well as on January 5–6, over East Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, dense fog conditions are expected to persist for a few hours in isolated pockets over Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha, West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, Mizoram & Tripura.

Some areas of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, are very likely to experience a cold day; isolated areas of West Uttar Pradesh are also likely to experience a severe cold day. Solitary pockets of cold wave conditions over East Rajasthan are most likely to occur. In isolated locations over Lakshadweep, there is a good chance of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall; in isolated locations over Tamil Nadu and Kerala, there may be heavy rainfall. Over coastal Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe, and Lakshadweep, thunderstorms with lightning are probably present in isolated areas. It is very likely that the Comorin area, which is in the southeast and borders the East Central Arabian Sea, will see squally weather with wind speeds between 40 and 45 kmph with gusts up to 55 kmph. It is not recommended that fishermen fish in these waters.
