Vinesh Phogat: Voting for Haryana Assembly elections 2024 is scheduled on October 5, 2024. Now the campaign for all 90 assembly seats comes to an end today . In this election one of the most hotly contested seat is Julana, where Congress has fielded former Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat. Her candidature has created a huge buzz, given the stature that she carries in the sporting world and her deep roots in the region. Recently in an Interview and said something big about PM Modi.

A Bold Decision of Refusing to Speak with PM Modi

In her campaign, Vinesh Phogat has been door-to-door trying to garner support. The other day, in a conversation with “The Lallantop,” she spoke about how she was even refusing to speak to Prime Minister Narendra Modi post the Paris Olympics 2024. She explained that she did not wish her conversation to be used for political purposes wherein she was trying to keep the discussion private and media free. She said, “After the failure in Paris Olympics 2024, I refused to talk to PM Modi on the phone. I did not want my feelings and efforts to be used for political gain.”

She added that, “I wanted to talk to the PM in a normal way without any conditions. I was not in favor of broadcasting the conversation on social media. That is why I refused to talk.” Vinesh Phogat expressed her discontent at being asked to broadcast the conversation without PM Modi calling her with this intention. She suspects this may have been a result of her problems over the last two years.

Disaster or Masterstroke For Vinesh Phogat?

Vinesh Phogat’s road to triumph in Julana far from easy. This is one seat the Congress party won so long ago as 2005, but since then it’s been controlled by INLD candidates and JJP leaders, an important NDA ally. A change of tack here could provide that small margin of difference for Congree Candidate Phogat-a decision being interpreted as strategic, because of her popularity in this Jat-dominated region.

The ‘Jatland’ Julana is represented by her husband, Somveer Rathi, which would prove an advantageous factor in the by-election for her. With the positive public image and sympathy after Olympic defeat, the prospects of Phogat may well change before the political canvas. However, the final result will come to the fore only on October 8, the day when votes are counted.
