With 20,036 new infections of novel coronavirus and 256 more deaths in the past 24 hours, India’s cumulative total climbed up to 1,02,86,709 and 1,48,994 respectively on Friday, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.
While 98,83,461 patients have recovered, there are 2,54,254 active cases. The recovery rate stands at 96.08 per cent and the fatality rate 1.45 per cent.
A total of 17,31,11,694 samples have been tested for Covid-19 till now. Of these, 10,62,420 samples were tested on Thursday: the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)

*The Centre government on Thursday announced that vaccine dry run will be conducted across all states from January 2 in three sessions. Earlier in the week, a two-day dry run was held in Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat and Punjab on December 28 and 29.
*WHO on Thursday approved the US based Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech’s vaccine.
*The Drug Controller General of India ((DCGI) is currently analysing data submitted by the Serum Institute of India, which is manufacturing Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine and Bharat Biotech, which is making indigenous vaccine in collaboration with ICMR and NIV.
*National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Anthony Fauci on Thursday said that the coronavirus vaccine rollout in the United States hasn’t gone as he expected adding that it has been ‘disappointing’.
*A total of 1.8 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine made by the Chinese biopharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech arrived in Indonesia on Thursday, according to Indonesian government officials.
*The Chinese mainland on Thursday reported 19 newly confirmed Covid-19 cases, including nine locally transmitted cases and 10 arriving from outside the mainland, the National Health Commission said on Friday.
* March 14 will be Covid-19 Remembrance Day in New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Thursday.
*Another 55,892 people in Britain have tested positive for Covid-19, marking the highest daily increase in coronavirus cases since the pandemic began in the country.
* The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the African continent has reached 2,727,345, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.
