Punia adamant on Mahapanchayat
“Mahapanchayat will certainly be held today. We’re fighting for our self-respect. They’re inaugurating the new Parliament building today, but murdering democracy in the country. We appeal to the administration to release our people detained by police,” wrestler Bajrang Punia said.
Meanwhile security has been beefed up at the Tikri border as khap panchayat leaders and farmers were planning to join the protest march.
Action demanded against WFI chief
The wrestlers’ protesting at Jantar Mantar are demanding action against BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan. They have accused him of sexual harassment. They called a mahapanchayat outside the new Parliament building on Sunday, the same day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building.
The protest site at Jantar Mantar is about 3 km from the Parliament complex.
“We will not allow anything to disrupt the inauguration of the new Parliament building. The entire Delhi Police is on its toes to make sure the inauguration ceremony is conducted smoothly,” Delhi Police Special CP Deepender Pathak told reporters.
