Yamuna Water Level: The monsoons season has caused flood like situation in many parts of the country, including Uttarakhand where heavy hailstorms and thunderstorms triggered landslides and road blockage. Meanwhile, the flood situation in Delhi continues to prevail with water level of Yamuna rising slightly to 205.58 metres, slightly above the danger mark.
Ganga crosses danger mark In Uttarakhand
The Ganga crossed danger mark in Uttarakhand’s Devprayag, causing flood like situation in the city. In Haridwar, too, Ganga breached the warning level due to heavy release of water from Alaknanda dam. Amid the ongoing situation, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted ‘heavy to heavy’ rainfall over Uttarakhand during the next five days. The Dehradun Meteorological Centre has issued an ‘orange’ alert in all 13 districts of Monday.
Yamuna water level
Heavy rains lashed some parts of Delhi on Sunday evening, further stirring flood warning. The rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours was 1.2 mm, the Indian Meteorological Department said.
Amid a receding trend, the water level of the Yamuna in Delhi rose slightly to 205.58 meters on Monday morning after light rainfall on Sunday. The water level of Yamuna breached the previous record of 207.49 meters last week on July 12, flowing above the danger mark, and crossed 208 meters on July 12.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the water has started receding and people will soon be able to go to their homes from the relief camps. For the unversed, over 10,000 people were evacuated after low lying areas were inundated.
IMD Predicts more rainfall
Nearly half of India is expected to experience heavy downpour in the next five days. States like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next five days, IMD predicted in its latest forecast.
“There is a possibility of more rainfall in Uttarakhand on July 16 and 17. For today, a red alert has been issued in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri and Haridwar districts and an orange alert has been issued for the remaining districts. There will be a slight reduction in rainfall on July 18,” Vikram Singh, Director, Meteorological Department, Dehradun told ANI on Sunday.
