Yoga Guru Ramdev apologises for ‘women look good even without clothes’ remark

Ramdev: After garnering controversy for a remark that was slammed for being ‘sexist’, Yoga guru Ramdev has now issued an apology for the same. The Yoga Guru’s statement comes after Maharashtra Women’s Commission had sent him a notice. For the unversed, Yoga Guru Ramdev has been receiving wrath on social media post his remarks that he made at an event where state deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’s wife Amruta was also present.

Ramdev’s comment on women

Addressing the event, a Yoga training program, in Maharashtra’s Thane on Friday, Yoga guru Ramdev was heard saying, “Women look good in saris, they look great in salwar suits, and in my view, they look good even if they don’t wear anything like me.”

He made these comments while saying that many women “did not get a chance to wear sarees at the event” because of back-to-back programmes.

Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’s wife Amruta Fadnavis was seen accompanying him when he made the comments. Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde’s son and MP Shrikant Shinde was also present at the event.

Mahua Moitra slams Yoga Guru Ramdev

Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra slammed the yoga guru saying, “Now I know why Patanjali baba ran away from Ramlila Maidan in women’s clothes. He says he likes sarees, salwars and…Clearly got a strabismus in his brain that makes his views so lop-sided.” She was talking about the incident in 2012, when the yoga teacher was caught trying to dodge the police in a white salwar kameez.
