India’s Finance Minister, Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman, announced the Aatm Nirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana on November 12, 2020, to provide employment opportunities to the country’s youth. This scheme, an integral part of the Prime Minister’s vision for a self-reliant India, holds significant importance in revitalizing the nation’s economy.
The Aatm Nirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana is an extension of the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program, which was launched by the central government in 2019 and is set to continue until June 30, 2021. Such schemes are periodically introduced by the government to address the employment needs of the nation.
Introduction to Aatm Nirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana
Under the PM Atma Nirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana, the government aims to provide numerous employment opportunities to citizens across various sectors. The scheme has successfully created 21 lakh new jobs, with an expenditure of INR 22,810 crore so far. To be eligible for the scheme, individuals must have a monthly income of less than INR 15,000, should not have been employed before October 1, 2020, and must be registered with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). Additionally, employees must possess a unique UNA number and should not have been associated with any company registered with the EPFO during the period from May 1, 2020, to September 30, 2020.
Eligibility Criteria and Benefits of the Scheme
The Aatm Nirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana primarily targets individuals with a monthly salary below INR 15,000, who are EPFO members. Eligible employees can avail themselves of the scheme’s benefits only if they had lost their jobs between May 1, 2020, and September 30, 2020, without joining any EPFO-registered company during that period. This initiative enables the government to support those affected by the economic downturn caused by the ongoing pandemic.
Successful Implementation and Impact of the Scheme
The Aatm Nirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana has proven to be a lifeline for 46.89 lakh citizens, as reported by the Parliament on February 10, 2022. This scheme has effectively encouraged job creation during the challenging times of the pandemic.
Through its implementation, the government has provided support to 1.26 lakh establishments, resulting in job opportunities for millions of beneficiaries. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Shri Rameshwar Teli, has been instrumental in ensuring the successful implementation of this scheme, which was launched on October 1, 2020.
Government’s Initiative towards Economic Recovery
The Aatm Nirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana stands as a testament to the government’s commitment to rebuilding the Indian economy in the face of the ongoing global health crisis. By encouraging employment generation, this scheme has played a vital role in restoring economic stability and empowering individuals who were affected by the pandemic-induced uncertainties.
The government’s continuous efforts to introduce and implement such schemes demonstrate its dedication to fostering economic growth and ensuring the welfare of its citizens.
