Ather 450X: As always, the question is why the third version of Ather’s sporty electric scooter, does not represent a significant step forward in terms of design.
In the year 2020, Ather added the X-factor to its sporty 450X scooters and gave us our first taste of Warp mode, a feature that truly made electric mobility enthusiasts even more enthusiastic about the technology. While that was undoubtedly an accurate representation of the “second generation,” the revisions made to the 450X earlier this year cannot be considered anything close to a “third generation.” The following are the areas in which the updated Ather 450X excels over its predecessor, as well as the areas in which it does not, and why it is appropriate to refer to it as “Generation 2.1.”
The Warp Is Now Even More Rapidly Accelerating
The fact that the ‘new’ 450X has the same peak power rating of 6.2kW and the same amount of torque (26Nm) suggests that there has been no improvement in performance from the 3.3kW motor. And even though it has gained 3.6 kilograms in weight, bringing the total to 111.6 kilograms, the manufacturer claims that it can still go from 0 to 40 kilometers per hour in 3.3 seconds.
Acceleration | Ather 450X Gen 3 | Ather 450X Gen 2 |
0-40kmph | 3.30s | 3.41s |
0-60kmph | 6.67s | 6.94s |
0-80kmph | 12.89s | 13.74s |
The updated 450X does maintain the same time as the previous model, but according to the VBox acceleration data, it is slightly quicker to 40 kilometers per hour and 60 kilometers per hour. On the other hand, what makes this difference so fascinating is that it widens to nearly a second in the run-up to 50 miles per hour (80 kilometers per hour). Because of the larger battery, there is obviously more power going to the motor, which is allowing it to quickly pick up speed. This is all due to the fact that the battery capacity has been increased.
