Budhwar Fast Rules
The rules for fasting are straightforward. On Wednesday, observe the fast after taking a morning bath. After observing the fast, avoid consuming salt (methods to avoid salt) as part of the meal. Consume fruits during the evening along with concluding the fast, as consuming regular food can break the fast.
Budhwar Fast Story
Once, a man named Madhusudan went to bring his wife from her parents’ house. The day he went to bring his wife happened to be a Wednesday.
Madhusudan, along with his wife, started the journey back, but his in-laws stopped them, explaining that Wednesday is not considered auspicious for travels.
However, Madhusudan, dismissing these warnings, continued his journey. Soon, he faced difficulties along the way, such as the breakdown of his bullock cart, forcing him to walk a long distance with his wife.
Due to a series of events, he was falsely accused and sentenced by the king of that state. Realizing the significance of Wednesday fasting, Madhusudan sought forgiveness from Lord Ganesha and Mercury (Budh Dev) and vowed to observe the Wednesday fast.
With the blessings of Lord Ganesha and Mercury, Madhusudan safely reached home with his wife. From then onwards, he faithfully observed the Wednesday fast with his wife.
