Car Care Tips: The Indian electric vehicle market is witnessing unprecedented growth. In the last few years, the EV industry has become a crucial part of the Indian automobile industry. The governments of various regions and countries are taking initiatives to promote sustainable and environment-friendly mobility. On one hand, where people are becoming increasingly aware of the advantages of EVs. On the other hand, some people still feel hesitant to buy an electric vehicle.
One of the primary reasons some people are still choosing ICE vehicles over electric ones is range anxiety. Presently, India lacks appropriate EV-centric infrastructure and there are very few EV charging stations in the country when compared to petrol or diesel refuelling pumps. Even when a person finds an EV charging station, usually EV cars take a much longer duration to get fully juiced up when compared to ICE vehicles.
In extreme winters like nowadays, the range of EV cars witnesses a significant dip of about 15-20 Percent. The primary reason for the reduced range is the low performance of the battery pack, essentially due to extremely cold weather. If you are facing the same issue, this article is for you. Here, we have listed 4 ways to improve your EV car’s range.
Heat the Powertrain While Plugged in
While this tip is also applicable to ICE vehicles, it becomes very important for electric vehicle owners to warm up the powertrain when it is plugged in. The primary reason behind this is electric vehicles consume a lot of batteries when they are heated up after a long duration of 7 to 8 hours. If you pre-heat your car while it is plugged in, you can have a fully juiced-up vehicle even after heating the powertrain.
Prefer Eco Mode
Driving your EV car in an Eco mode can provide you with a better range when compared to running it in other modes. Driving your car in performance mode can significantly reduce the range of your EV car. So, you are suggested to prefer driving in Eco Mode until it is necessary to drive faster.
Maintain the Proper Tyre Pressure
Tyre’s air pressure is a crucial factor that decides the mileage in Electric or ICE vehicles. Particularly in cold weather, maintaining appropriate air pressure in the tyres of an EV becomes important because low air pressure in tyres can badly affect the range of electric vehicles.
Always Keep Your Battery Pack Charged
If you have an electric vehicle, you should always keep your EV’s battery level from 20 and 80 per cent. Preferably, it should not be lower than 20 per cent and not higher than 80 per cent. EV owners can also keep their cars plugged in for the whole night to get the most range from their vehicles.
