Car Care Tips: How to change a tyre
Engage The Hand Brake
Don’t attempt to change a tyre if you’re on uneven terrain (such as gravel), in the middle of a highway, or in a decline. First, locate a secure parking area. Prior to exiting the vehicle, make sure you park in a secure spot on level ground and apply the parking and hand brakes.
Secure The Wheel Wedges
Wheel wedges are used to hold the wheel firmly in place and stop it from moving while changing tyres. To wedge a wheel, you’ll need a hardwood board that is about 30 cm by 7 cm, or you can use any other appropriate material that is strong enough to hold its own under pressure without bending or breaking.
Remove The Lug Nuts of the tyre
Before using a jack to raise the car, the lug nuts should only be loosened halfway because if you loosen them more, the tyre will continue to rotate. To remove the lug nuts, use the lug wrench. Make sure you are holding the wrench on the appropriate sized side.
Secure The Jack With Wooden Boards
Under the car, find the jacking point. This is the location where the jack and the car are meant to be attached. Hold the jack in place by placing the wooden boards beneath the jacking point. Proceed to attach the jack to the jacking point and raise the vehicle until a tiny space appears between the ground and the tyre.
Replace The Flat Tyre
Your spare tyre, which ought to have been on the car’s floor, should be used to replace the flat tyre. After replacing this tyre, use a torque wrench or adjustable spanner to tighten all four lug nuts until the tyre is securely fastened.
