Car Care Tips: Cleaning a standard car radiator is done with a mixture of chemicals called a radiator flush, sometimes referred to as a coolant flush. A Radiator Flush is specifically formulated to eliminate rust and scale also removing the old polluted coolant from the cooling system. Consider the cooling system of your car like receiving a blood transfusion. In this article, we will tell you what it is and how to do it.
What is Car Radiator Flush?
Radiator flushes, also known as coolant flushes, are used to remove rust and sediment from your car’s cooling system. The coolant prevents your engine from freezing in cold weather while it’s not operating and from overheating while it is. A radiator flush is intended to guarantee that your coolant system is shielding your engine from impurities and rust as effectively as possible, as well as to stop metal engine parts from corroding.
Does your car need it?
To find out how often your model’s manufacturer suggests a radiator flush, consult the owner’s manual. Every 50,000-80,000 kms, or every 2–5 years, is the typical radiator flush period.
How to do it?
Lift the hood of your vehicle and locate the radiator- Unscrew the radiator cap and place an oil pan under the radiator nozzle
- Open the drain valve and let the old coolant leak out
- Pour radiator cleaner and distilled water into the radiator
- Turn your vehicle on with the heat on full blast for 10-15 minutes
- Drain the radiator after the engine has cooled for 15-30 minutes
- Flush the radiator with distilled water until the drainage runs clear
- Fill the radiator with engine coolant or diluted antifreeze (if needed).
- Run your vehicle for 15 minutes to pull the coolant into your cooling system
- Add more coolant to fill the reservoir
