The Aadhaar card is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and is linked to a person’s demographic and biometric information. Aadhaar cards are official proof of identity, so it’s important to keep them up to date with accurate information. Cardholders can update their marital status, mobile number, address, and Aadhaar photo on the UIDAI website or at an Aadhaar Enrollment Centre. Following are the simple ways on how you change the surname on Aadhar Card post-marriage.
Change surname in Aadhar Card – Online
- Go to the UIDAI’s official self-service update portal and enter your Aadhaar number.
- Now, go to service section and look for ‘edit’ option.
- Change your surname.
- Upload scanned copies of your self-attested supporting documents.
- Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.
- Click “Submit” to apply for the name change.
Note: There is no fee for changing your surname on your Aadhaar card after marriage through the self-service portal.
How to change surname in Aadhar Card – Offline
- Go to the nearest Aadhaar Enrollment Centre.
- Bring all the original copies of your supporting documents (such as your marriage certificate).
- The staff will scan your documents and return the originals to you.
- You will need to pay a nominal fee of Rs 50 for the offline name change process.
