DA Hike 2024: Central Government’s Big Gift to Employees, 13 Allowances Increase by 25%, Check Details

DA Hike 2024: In a welcome move for central government employees and retirees, the government has approved a 4% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR), raising it to 50%. This increase, effective from January 1, 2024, is aimed at cushioning the impact of rising prices, leading to a substantial rise in salaries and pensions for the workforce.

Enhanced Allowances with DA Hike

With DA hitting the 50% mark, various allowances will also see a boost. This includes House Rent Allowance (HRA) and other benefits. According to a circular issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on July 4, 2024, several allowances will be increased by 25% over existing rates from January 1, 2024.

Allowances Seeing a 25% Increase

When the DA reaches 50%, several allowance rates rise by 25%. Here’s a breakdown of the allowances that will now see a hike:

Tough Location Allowance (TLA)

The Tough Location Allowance consolidates allowances like the Special Compensatory (Remote Locality) Allowance, Sunderban Allowance, and Tribal Area Allowance. Based on different categories in the R&H Matrix, these allowances will range from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 5300 per month.

Conveyance Allowance

Updated by the Ministry of Finance in July 2017 with the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission (7 CPC), this allowance covers various transport-related expenses.

Special Allowance for Children of Women with Disabilities

Women employees with disabilities will receive Rs. 3000 per month as a special allowance for child care from the birth of the child until they turn two. This amount will increase by 25% each time the DA on the revised pay structure hits 50%.
