Dr. M. Srinivas, Dean of ESIC Hospital and Medical College, Hyderabad has been appointed as the new Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi. The Department of Personnel and Training has issued an order in this regard.
Doctor. Srinivas will succeed Randeep Guleria who has been in the post since March 2017. Srinivas was Professor in the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Delhi AIIMS before joining ESIC Hospital and Medical College in Hyderabad in 2016.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Dr. Srinivas to the post of Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, the order said.
According to the order, this appointment is effective for five years from the date of assuming office or till the age of 65 years or till further orders, whichever is earlier. This order was initially given on 9 September, but later the government issued a new order and changed the date to 23 September.
It further states that the ACC has called “Dr Randeep Guleria to continue as Director AIIMS, New Delhi for a period of six months with effect from March 25, 2022 or till the induction of a new Director, whichever is earlier.”
Guleria was appointed as the director on March 28, 2017 for a period of five years. His term was extended twice for three months. Dr. Guleria’s second extended term as the Director of AIIMS Delhi was to end on September 23.
Earlier in March, the names of three doctors – Nikhil Tandon, Head of the Department of Endocrinology; Rajesh Malhotra, Head of AIIMS Trauma Center and Head of the Department of Orthopedics, and Pramod Garg, Professor in the Department of Gastroenterology at the institute – shortlisted by a search-cum-selection committee and later topped by AIIMS. The decision-making body was approved by the institution body, sent to the ACC for approval.
