Electric Scooter: We were all surprised when we found out how much the Ultraviolette F77 would cost. This could happen more often now that the deadline for the FAME II subsidies to end is getting closer. But before that happens, we’ll tell you about the prices of the three most popular scooters in each Indian state. This will give you a better idea of how subsidies for electric two-wheelers are doing across the whole country.

Uttar Pradesh has proposed a subsidy but hasn’t yet applied it, while many states have already withdrawn EV subsidies. Next, some states, like Gujarat, have a fixed subsidy amount. In Delhi and Rajasthan, however, the subsidy amount depends on the battery capacity of the scooter.

An interesting exception is Maharashtra, where the flat Rs 10,000 state subsidy applies to the Ather 450X and Ola S1 Pro but not to the TVS iQube S, according to what we learned from the dealers.

Now, as was said, the prices of these scooters will only go up over time, except for UP (if the proposed subsidy goes through). But even now, these electric scooters cost as much or even more than many entry-level performance-focused gasoline motorcycles, even though they don’t perform as well.
And when FAME II ends in March ’24, prices could go up a lot—from Rs 45,000 to Rs 50,000, depending on the scooter—putting them out of reach for everyone but the wealthy. This could affect the growth of electric two-wheelers in India, which has been on the rise so far, but we don’t know if that will happen yet.
