In recent times, the usage of food delivery apps has soared in India, offering convenience in our fast-paced lives. However, concerns over food quality persist, with reports of insects found in delivered meals surfacing. Two recent incidents in Gurugram and Bengaluru have reignited these concerns, prompting reflection on the state of the food service industry.
Ramen Horror Story
Sonai Acharya, a resident of Gurugram, shared her shocking experience on X. She ordered Japanese ramen from Auntie Fug’s via Zomato, only to find a dead cockroach floating in the noodle soup. Pictures shared online showed the gruesome discovery, leaving Sonai “absolutely unacceptable and disgusted.”
Zomato Responds
The food delivery platform quickly acknowledged the complaint, promising to investigate and offering a refund. However, this wasn’t an isolated incident.
Bengaluru Resident’s Similar Ordeal
Just days prior, Harshita from Bengaluru faced a similar nightmare. She ordered chicken fried rice from TAPRI BY THE CORNER via Zomato, but instead of a delicious meal, she found a cockroach nestled amongst the rice. “Absolutely disgusted,” she wrote on X, sharing a video of the unwelcome guest.
These incidents highlight the crucial need for stricter hygiene checks in restaurants and food delivery services. While Zomato’s swift response is commendable, it begs the question: how can we prevent such incidents from happening in the first place?
