Former Law Minister and senior advocate Shanti Bhushan passed away on Tuesday evening. He breathed his last at 7 pm today at his home in Delhi. He was running ill for some time. Shanti Bhushan was 97 years old. Shanti Bhushan held the post of Law Minister in the Morarji Desai government from 1977 to 1979. He took part in the movement during emergency. Later participated in many movements against corruption.
Shanti Bhushan was known as a constitutional expert. His hold on the issues of law was considered very strong. In 1971, he fought a case against Indira Gandhi in the Allahabad High Court. In fact, Indira Gandhi won the Lok Sabha elections in 1971 from Rae Bareli seat in UP and became the Prime Minister. But from this seat, his opponent Rajnarayan of Jana Sangh filed a petition in the Allahabad High Court accusing him of rigging the election and winning the election.
Indira Gandhi had to resign, during that time Shanti Bhushan fought this case for Rajnarayan in the Allahabad High Court. He was the lawyer on behalf of Rajnarayan in this case. In this case he had won. After which there was a ruckus in the politics of the country and in 1974 Indira Gandhi had to resign from the post of Prime Minister. The court had banned Indira from contesting elections for six years. Only after that he had decided to impose emergency in the country.

Law Minister made in 1977 After this, in 1977, Shanti Bhushan was given a place in the Union Cabinet. The then Morarji Desai government made him the law minister. He was the law minister for two years till 1979. After this, in the year 1980, there was a big change in the life of Shanti Bhushan. NGO Center for Public Interest Litigation was started on his behalf. Through this NGO, many petitions related to the national interest were filed in the Supreme Court.
After this, in 2018, Shanti Bhushan came into the limelight when he filed a petition in the Supreme Court regarding the change in the Master of Roster. Please tell that Shanti Bhushan’s son Prashant Bhushan is also a senior Supreme Court advocate.
