On October 2, Indians all around the world commemorate the birth anniversary of the Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. The day is celebrated by remembering his teachings, life values and valuable contribution to India’s independence movement.
This year marks the 151st birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who is affectionately called ‘Bapu’.
Mahatma Gandhi was born as Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi in the Porbandar district of Gujarat in 1869. He was a firm believer of two principles – Satya(Truth) and Ahimsa (Non-violence) and followed them throughout his life.
A barrister by profession in South Africa, Bapu’s contribution to India’s fight against Britishers is immeasurable. While other leaders indulged in violent attacks, causing harm to lives of thousands, Mahatma did not lose his calm and continued his fight with peace.
His non violent but passionate approach towards achieving India’s freedom led to a movement of righteousness which eventually resulted in India gaining its independence.
Even today, not only in India but around the world, his principle of ‘Truth’ and ‘Non-violence’ hold significance in building a peaceful community.
